Fit that in your pocket

Here she is... the iPad:

Say wha...?
No, this is not a ginormous iPhone, nor is it a ginormous feminine hygiene product, as the name implies. This is Apple's answer to Amazon's Kindle.

And it looks/sounds freaking brilliant. I've already added it to my unattainable birthday wish list.

Price? Starting at $499, but up to $829, depending on level of awesomeness.

But from what I've gathered, it's much more than a wireless reading device. It seems to have all the features of a laptop but without the keyboard. Or rather, with a "touch" keyboard on the actual screen.

Mmmmm. Delicious. Only thing lame about it is the name. Cuz really? "iPad" was the best they could come up with? It's borderline gross. They should have called me!!!! I have better names for it, like the iKindle or the iWantthat.

Yeah, Steve said everyone at work yesterday was bashing the name. They were saying "What's the name of the top ipad model? The Maxipad."

But it does look cool.

One time Morgan bought me an "iPod" but it turned out to be just a fan that I could wear around my neck and it looked like an iPod. That is what this reminds me of. I actually thought it was a mouse pad that just looked like an iPhone. So I am not interested. I don't even use pads.

I'm up in the air on this. I won't get one, but I'm still trying to decide if I even desire one.

It's a tough call.

Since Sam works at Apple (but claims absolutely NO responsibility for the stupid name) we've been talking about this a lot. I only comes with 64 gig of memory, with no expandibility: no USB to add an external drive, or slots for memory cards. You can't run regular programs, only apps. It's too big to stick in your pocket to go anywhere, although if you travel alot it's smaller than a laptop, although NOT smaller than a lot of (cheaper) netbooks. It seems to be a giant iPod that is not as convenient. The cool thing about the iPod is that it does cool stuff AND fits in your pocket. I'm not sold yet.

It makes me giggle. I can't imagine just sitting at a coffee shop sipping on hot chocolate with this on the table like a laptop...still giggling....

I kept thinking that this reminded me of something and it finally came to me. It reminds me of those big button phones for people with bad eyesight. Like this is for people who can't read the itty bitty iphones. hee hee

Plus, I'd like to see how they keep it protected. Do they have a cover for it or can you hook it onto your pants? I don't get it.

OK I know this is off topic but my friend forwarded me your blog post of your fun Catching Fire cake decorating contest. I was curious if it would be ok if I linked to your post/blog about it. I was thinking of doing a contest of my own for a new book that just came out and would love to highlight how fun your contest was.

Debbie CF--Don't worry, that cake contest is never off topic. We discuss it on an almost daily basis. You are more than welcome to link it. In fact, it would bring us much pleasure! Super glad you enjoyed it. What's this new book you're reading? Would it interest us HG/CF fans? Do tell!

PS. I love cranberry/fries too!

i love the ipad, but the name... not so much. I would love one, but I fear it would replace my macbook which is not ready to be replaced.

Hey thanks for letting me link over to your blog! I'm hosting a cake decorating thing on the book The Dark Divine by Bree Despain. It's YA and super great!
